Devils and Realist (2013)

Image
Devils and Realist Year: 2013 Genre: Supernatural, comedy, fantasy Rate: 4/10 Synopsis The story is about how a human being, William Twining, who is the descendant of Solomon, becomes the elector to decide who will be the interim ruler while Lucifer is resting to regain his power. Twining is a realist; he does not believe the existence of gods, devils, either ghost. To accidentally summoned a devil from his basement, he struggles to face the truth. Story Telling This anime is not appealing to me at all. It does not present the back story well. Everything is so vague and confusing because they insert the background story here and there. The pieces of back story are controversial. They don't tell a complete story. Moreover, in the end of the anime, I still don't get the whole picture of the devil deals (or maybe I'm too dump). Devils are glorified and the angel is mind-twistingly evil. I was expecting to see some great plot-twists, but I was disappointed. In the...

Deadman Wonderland (2011)

Image
Deadman Wonderland Year: 2011 Genre: Action, Horror, Science fiction Rate: 7/10 Synopsis The story is about a boy whose classmates were killed and he was sent to prison for it. The prison was no normal prison. It was one that forced the prisoners to do all sort of cruel performance to gain profit. I am not going deeper in the story, but there was some sort of prisoners with super power and were kept in G zone. If you like the bloody fighting and twisted side of humanity, this is definitely the one you are looking for. Story Telling Deadman wonderland unleashed a super villain which is the one that put the hero (Igarashi Ganta) in jail in the first episode and keeping it as the target that the hero of the story chasing. It is a cliché, but it is not stupid if it works. The audience is at the same page as the hero. Every episode, he is exploring new information about this "wonderland" he is in. I was getting just enough information to keep me craving for new develop...

Claymore (2007)

Claymore Year: 2007 Genre: Dark Fantasy, Action Rate: 9/10 Synopsis This is a story of a group of half-human and half-yoma (yoma=monster) fighters. They belong to an organization that accept request to eradicate yoma from the attacked town. The story is led by a female protagonist, Clare. She had recused a boy name Raki. I don't want any spoiler here, so that's it. This is an absolute serious anime. There was no comedy, but a bit of romance and friendship I may say. I love the plot and think that it is better than most of the new anime released nowadays. Story telling I like how they tell the story here. The story started from the current journey of the heroine, Clare and her encounter with Raki. In this part, the necessary details of the organization Clare was working for were told. After that was a flash back to the back story of Clare, which connected to what she would do next. After the flash back, every episode built up the tension so well. I like how they kept...

Acchi Kocchi

Acchi Kocchi (2012) Genres: Comedy, Romance, School, Seinen, Slice of Life Rate: 8 out of 10 Acchi Kocchi or Place to Place has a classic element of anime -- exaggerated emotions, and I really like it here. The way they insert romance is very suitable, too. Although it might be a little bit cheesy for some people, I think it matches the characters very well. Talking about the characters, they all have vivid personalities of their owns. The chemical reactions between them make the anime hilarious. However, there are a lot of jokes are made upon Japanese puns, so it might be a bit hard for me to understand. The whole anime is based on a concept of cat. You can see cat or cat related effects everywhere -- even the name of the high school. They even have a cat statue. Tsumiki, a main character,  turns into cat sometimes. I am a cat lover, so the whole thing is so cute to me. One more thing I really like is the little illustration of arrows between scenes and in every letters. ...

11eyes

11eyes: Tsumi to Batsu to Aganai no Shōjo 11eyes: Sin, Damnation, and the Atonement Girl Rate: 6 out of 10 11eyes: Tsumi to Batsu to Aganai no Shōjo is a story about a group of high school students who are summoned into “Red Night” and for some reasons they are target of “Black Knights” who claim they should be dead. Its genres are: action, echhi, super power, and supernatural. First off, there are quite many panty shots in the first few episodes and it tries to include some adult content at the nearly end, which do not fit in the serious story line very well. After finishing this anime, I found that it is an adaptation of an adult visual novel. So that explains the things I saw. The story telling pattern is very similar in each episode. Happy school life followed by entering “Red Night”. But in that boring pattern, the story is moving forward bit by bit. It wasn’t until nearly the end that you understand the whole big picture, which is a strategy that other a...
